At 3.00pm on March 12th 1918 two heavy draught horses attached to a G.S. wagon, standing on a track across open ground near transport lines, took fright and bolted after the driver had dismounted. They galloped into the transport lines of the 1/5th Lincolnshire Regt., where sixty animals were picketed, and were heading between the lines of animals. L/Cpl. Vincent ran towards them, kept at their heads, and seized the reins. After being dragged for some distance he brought them to a standstill just clear of these animals. This N.C.O's prompt action and presence of mind averted a serious stampede, which with so many transport lines adjacent might have resulted in injuries to many animals.
Submitted 15/03/1917 as an act of courage which should be entered in Regimental Conduct Sheet.
