For conspicuous gallantry on May 30th 1918 when the enemy attempted to raid our trenches at Route 'A' KEEP, N.W. of FESTUBERT. Early in the morning the enemy put down a heavy artillery and trench mortar barrage, and then attacked with his infantry. 2/Lt. Utting was in command at this point. He at once went along his line seeing to the posts and controlling the fire. He set a very fine example. The trench between the posts is shallow, and he was subjected to considerable danger. He was wounded, but kept on with his work till the enemy had completely disappeared.
