On October 17th 1918 at ANDIGNY-LES-FERMES, Pte. Towers and another Private formed an escort to a party of German prisoners. On moving back through the fog they lost direction and walked into a German officer commanding a detachment of three machine-guns. This Private immediately threatened the officer and told him he was taken prisoner. The German Officer said, "No, you are my prisoner". Pte. Towers argued with the officer, who could speak English, and told him he was surrounded. He then went up and kicked over one of the machine-guns. The officer and his men then surrounded. By his coolness and confidence under an awkward situation, Pte. Towers was able to extract himself from a difficult situation and also bringing an officer and forty more prisoners.
