(Recommended for Military Medal)

For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty on June 19th when the Battalion captured enemy trenches near FOSSE 3 DE LIEVIN, S.W. of LENS. This N.C.O. was in command of a Lewis-gun post holding the junction of Bath and Bun trenches (LENS 36C S.W. 1/10,000 M30 b 19.28). His whole team became casualties through the burst of a trench mortar, but it spite of this he continued to fire the gun himself inflicting many casualties upon the enemy. He behaved with great coolness and courage throughout.
