For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty on September 29th 1918, when the enemy positions East of BELLENGLISE were attacked. During the attack by the Battalion on MAGNY LA FOSSE, when nearing the village this N.C.O., seeing that a machine-gun which was firing from the edge of a wood might hold up the advance, rushed forward with two Sections and put the gun out of action capturing fifty prisoners and four machine-guns in the wood. Later, under heavy shell fire he displayed courage and skill in reorganising two Sections and consolidating his positions. This N.C.O. is not in possession of any decoration.
