For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty on July 1st 1917 when the Battalion attacked the enemy positions at CITE DU MOULIN, S.W. of LENS. This N.C.O. was with the Reserve Company. A supply of bombs was called for by the Company in the line and he went forward with a party over the slopes of Hill 65 which was being swept by fire of all kinds. On the way back three of his party were wounded. He got the rest safely back and then at once went out in search of his three men. He made three journeys and got them all in after which he assisted to dress their wounds. All this was under heavy fire.
