For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty on the night of the 12th/13th 1917 in trenches near CAMBRIN. L/Cpl. Robinson was in charge of a Lewis-gun team, when the enemy put down a very heavy barrage of artillery, trench mortars and gas shells, and subsequently raided his trench. After his post had been blown in, he saw a hostile party, eight strong, appearing up and near a forward sap: they then bombed a post near by. He at once rushed forward with his Lewis-gun on top, and got in a forward position from which he could enfilade the enemy, opened fire and drove them off. He displayed resource and readiness in action.
On night of December 9th/19th 1917, during a heavy bombardment and attempted raid, and also on night of December 10th/11th during heavy enemy shelling and gas projection, L/Cpl. Robinson displayed great coolness and cheerfulness, moving his gun to fresh position as the trench was continually blown in. He handled his gun team skilfully and greatly encouraged his men.
