2/Lieut. (T/Lieut.) Mark ROBINSON 7th Middlesex Regt., attached 5th Lincolnshire Regt.

(Recommended for Croix de Guerre)

On the 20th April 1917 at CITE ST. PIERRE near LENS the enemy opened a heavy barrage on the trench in which Lt. Robinson was in command of a Platoon. Although he was buried by the explosion of a shell he remained on duty encouraging his men until he had assured himself that the trench was clear and all his men under cover. He has at other times shown courage, coolness and resource under fire especially at GOMMECOURT in June 1916 when his Platoon was digging an advanced trench and came under heavy machine-gun and rifle fire. By his conduct and example Lt. Robinson steadied and encouraged them carrying out the task to its completion.

2/Lieut. (T/Lieut.) Mark ROBINSON

(Recommended for Military Cross)

For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty on June 19th 1917 when the Battalion captured enemy trenches near FOSSE 3 DE LIEVIN, S.W. of LENS. This Officer was in command of the night assaulting Company. He led his men with great dash and all the objectives of the Company were quickly gained. He then set to work to organise the defence and to consolidate, which he did in a most able manner. The enemy made four attempts to counter-attack, but in each case were driven back. He set a splendid example of coolness and courage and there is no doubt that his grasp of the situation and his unceasing energy were largely responsible for the capture and holding of the position. He has already been awarded the Croix de Guerre for gallantry in the field.
