240143 Pte. Arthur REED

(Recommended for Military Medal)

For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty at CITE ST. PIERRE on the 21st and 22nd April 1917 when communication between Advanced Battalion H.Q. and the Companies in the line was constantly cut off by heavy enemy barrage, as a linesman Pte. Reed went out at various times both by day and night accompanied by Pte. Ward under heavy shell fire to repair the line in the open. It was very largely due to the devotion to duty of these two men that communication was maintained.
