240515 Pte. George Henry OGDEN (Gainsborough)

(Recommended for Military Medal)

For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty on June 19th 1917 when the Battalion captured enemy trenches near FOSSE 3 DE LIEVIN, S.W. of LENS. Pte. Ogden (who was a stretcher bearer) with another stretcher bearer did continual good work in bandaging and carrying wounded to the dressing station under heavy shell fire, having to pass through a heavy barrage on at least three occasions. He showed a complete disregard for danger. Again, on the night of June 20th/21st the same two men did valuable work in attending to wounded under fire, and also went forward to a Company of another Battalion that was suffering from gas and assisted in getting the men away. He has been a stretcher bearer for over eighteen months and has always done well.
