For conspicuous gallantry and fine leadership on the 17th October 1917 when the enemy positions S.E. of VAUX ANDIGNY were attacked. This officer led his Company with great determination under severe fire from BELLENGLISE RIDGE on the left flank and later seeing that the advance might become disorganised owing to fire from the flank and the dense fog, collected scattered parties of men and reorganised the line until the left flank had been cleared. He was largely responsible for organising a second attack on the village of ANDIGNY LES FERNES which was strongly held. This attack was successful. I cannot speak too highly of this Officer's services. He set a splendid example to all ranks by his disregard for danger under heavy fire, and by his fine leadership and determinations. It was largely due to him that the final objectives were gained. This officer has not been recommended in the New Years Honours Despatch, 1919.
