For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty on July 1st 1917 when the Battalion attacked the enemy trenches in CITE DU MOULIN, S.W. of LENS. This man in company with Pte. Cox, went over the open to forward Companies on six occasions, a journey of some 600 yards under continual fire from artillery, machine-guns and snipers. They showed complete contempt for danger and the work they performed was most valuable. When not taking messages they observed the front from Hill 65, a spot to which the enemy paid considerable attention.

For conspicuous gallantry at LENS on the 1st July 1917 when the Battalion attack the CITE DU MOULIN. This man who is a scout carried messages continuously all day through heavy enemy barrages and across open ground swept by machine-guns. He did valuable work and his disregard for danger is proverbial in the Battalion.

For conspicuous gallantry and services on the 17th October 1918 when the enemy positions South East of VAUX ANDIGNY were attacked. This man who is a Battalion Scout was sent forward with Pte. Ivatt as an observer and to assist in guiding one of the leading Companies as a compass bearing through the thick fog. He accomplished this successfully and later gave valuable assistance in locating hostile machine-guns. He was continuously on duty until night and carried out his duties with great courage and determination under severe machine-gun and shell fire.
