201775 James Robinson LACK

(Recommended for Military Medal)

For conspicuous gallantry on March 8th 1918 near CAMBRIN. A party of one Sergeant and twenty-nine men were engaged in burying a pipe line in the evening when still light. The enemy suddenly opened a heavy artillery fire on them: the fire is described by an officer who saw it, as very intense. The party ran to a trench for shelter, but one man was left severely wounded. He called out and L/Cpl. French with Pte. Lack at once went back into the open under heavy fire and carried him to safety in the trench.
