240667 Corporal Alfred JACKLIN

(Recommended for Military Medal)

For conspicuous gallantry and good leadership on the 17th October 1918 when the enemy positions S.E. of VAUX ANDIGNY were attacked. This N.C.O. showed great gallantry in leading his Platoon under heavy machine-gun fire and initiative in collecting and organising parties of men who had become detached owing to the thick fog. Later during the attack on ANDIGNY LES FEMES he attacked an enemy machine-gun in spite of casualties and succeeded in killing or capturing the team and gun. Subsequently he showed great coolness under heavy shell fire in supervising the consolidation of his position. He set a splendid example to all ranks throughout the day.

Submitted 19/10/1918; Awarded M.M. (IX Corps HR/660); Brigade message dated 07/11/1918
