240154 Sgt. Thomas William HUDDLESTON

(Recommended for Military Medal)

For gallantry and devotion to duty on many occasions, especially:

1. On the 20th April 1917 at CITE ST. PIERRE when a very heavy barrage was opened on his trench in which there was no cover for his men, he continually wound up and down encouraging his men under severe fire by his personal example and bearing

2. On the 20th February 1917 during an intense bombardment at GOMMECOURT he showed great coolness and courage and by his devotion to duty, encouraged the men under his command to stand the bombardment

3. On the next evening 21/02/1917 at GOMMECOURT when an advanced Lewis-gun post at LA BRAYELLE Road was heavily trench mortared although men at either side of him were killed and he himself was badly shaken. He took charge and by his prompt action averted further casualties. He has at all times shown great coolness under fire and courage and response in emergencies.

240154 Sgt. Thomas William HUDDLESTON

(Recommended for Bar to Military Medal)

For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty on June 19th 1917 when the Battalion captured enemy trenches near FOSSE 3 DE LIEVIN, S.W .of LENS. He was in command of a Platoon of an assaulting Company that was held up by machine-gun fire and suffered several casualties. He at once got his men together and led an attack against the enemy trench until he was wounded. He behaved with great gallantry and set a fine example, materially assisting in the fired capture of the objective. He has already been awarded the Military Medal for gallantry near Cite St. Pierre in April last.
