241315 Pte. Frank HAWKINS

(Recommended for Medaille d'Honour with Bronze Swords)

For conspicuous gallantry on January 6th 1918 at CAMBRIN. The enemy put down a very heavy Trench Mortar barrage which completely wrecked a considerable portion of our trenches. This man who is a runner carried several message on the situation through the barrage. He showed the greatest courage and disregard for danger.

For devotion to duty and gallant conduct in the performance of military duty during the period under review, and during a whole period of 2½ years continuous service in this country. This man is a runner and has been twice wounded whilst in the performance of military duty. He sets a fine example to all ranks. He is not in possession of any decoration.
