241130 Pte. Ellis HALLETT (Limber)

(Recommended for Military Medal)

For gallantry and devotion to duty on June 12th 1917 when with a Company holding the line West of LENS. On this day a raid was made on the enemy trenches close by and the enemy put down a heavy barrage. Pte. Hallet with another man, volunteered to carry a message through this barrage, the line being cut, and although blown into the air by the burst of shell, at once went on and delivered the message. The same evening the same men again volunteered to carry a message through a barrage that the enemy put on our front trenches, and successfully did so. This man has been employed for a considerable time as a Company runner, and has on many occasions done good work, showing utter fearlessness under fire.
