240614 L/ Sgt. George Edward GORRINGE

(Recommended for Military Medal)

For conspicuous gallantry on May 30th 1918 when the enemy attempted to raid our trenches at Route 'A' KEEP, N.W. of FESTUBERT. Early in the morning the enemy put down a heavy artillery and trench mortar barrage and then attacked with his infantry. Our trenches at this point are shallow and do not afford good protections except at the posts. L/Sgt. Gorringe, however, kept moving all along his line throughout the engagement, and by his complete disregard for danger set a fine example to his men, and was of the greatest value in controlling the fire. At the very commencement he was knocked down by the explosion of a trench mortar.

Submitted 01/06/1918; Granted M.M. 08/06/1918; also Card of Recognition.
