Goodband, Benjamin, 17189

17189 Sgt. Benjamin GOODBAND

(Recommended for Distinguished Conduct Medal)

For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty on many occasions in operations during the last four months and particularly on October 13th 1918 at FRESNO LE GRAND. During heavy enemy shelling a billet containing five sergeants received a direct hit burying them all. This N.C.O. was first on the scene and worked incessantly regardless of danger from enemy shells and debris from the house and succeeded in extricating two wounded Sergeants. This happened at night rendering work more difficult. He has always set a fine example to all.

Submitted for Supplementary Despatch 05/02/1919. [Does not appear to have been accepted]
