For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty at MONCHY AUX BOIS in September 1916. This Officer was in charge of a party of men who were ordered to explode an ammoned[?] tube in the enemy fire to clear a path for a raiding party. The tube was placed in the wire but the patent lighter would not ignite the fuse. Lt. Goodall ordered his party to return to their trench and himself struck a match successfully in the darkness successfully igniting the fuse and exploding the charge.

For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty during the period under review (17/09/1918 to 11/11/1918) and particularly during operations between CARTIGNY-SEMERIES form 6th/10th November 1918 when he showed great skill and courage in handling his Company under heavy machine-gun fire. This officer has served with the Battalion in this country since October 1915 and has done most valuable work both as a Platoon and Company Commander. He is always cool and cheerful under the most adverse circumstances and has always set a fine example of courage under fire to his men. This Officer was Mentioned in Despatches 29/12/1918.
