For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty at LOOS on 04/05/1917 when a party of the enemy about 30 strong attempted to rush an advanced bombing post. The N.C.O. in charge of the post having been killed and one man wounded by a rifle grenade, Pte. Forster took charge of the post, ordered it to retire a short distance with the dead N.C.O. and wounded man and himself covered the retirement by vigorously bombing the oncoming enemy. His action disorganised the first rush of the enemy, prevented the dead and wounded man from falling into their hands and greatly contributed to his intimate repulse with severe loss.
