2/Lieut. Frank Edward Bayliss LE FEURE

(Recommended for Military Cross)

For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty on July 1st 1917, when the Battalion attacked the enemy positions at CITE DU MOULIN, S.W. of LENS. This officer was in command of the right supporting ("mopping up") Company. When the left assaulting Company was checked, he pressed forward, killing many of the enemy and personally taking a prisoner. When he could go not further he dug in. Communication between the right Company (which had gone further) and the left Company then became most difficult, and several runners were hit. 2/Lt. Le Feure then made it his special mission to keep in touch between the two Companies, and repeatedly passed over ground that was under heavy fire. This officer showed a complete contempt for danger, and is always most cool under fire. He sets a magnificent example to his men.
