For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty on June 19th 1917, when the Battalion captured enemy trenches near FOSSE 3 DE LIEVIN, S.W. of LENS. He showed conspicuous coolness and courage in the attack and afterwards during the consolidation and when the enemy counter-attacked he behaved with marked ability and resource. He set a very fine example to his men, and did very valuable work.
