241162 Pte. Noel COX (Scunthorpe)

(Recommended for Military Medal)

For gallantry and devotion to duty on June 12th 1917 when with a Company holding the line west of LENS. On this day a raid was made on the enemy trenches close by and the enemy put down a heavy barrage. Pte. Cox with another man volunteered to carry a message through this barrage (the line being cut) and although blown into the air by the burst of a shell, at once went on and delivered the message. The same evening the same men again volunteered to carry a message through a barrage that the enemy put down on our front trenches and successfully did so. This man has previously done good work.
