(Recommended for the Military Medal)
For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty on July 1st 1917 when the Battalion attacked the enemy positions in the CITE DU MOULIN, South West of LENS. This man in company with Pte. Moore, went over the open to forward Companies on six occasions, a journey of some 600 yards, under continued fire from artillery, machine duns and snipers. They showed complete contempt for danger and the work they performed was most valuable. When not taking messages they observed the front from HILL 65, a spot to which the enemy paid considerable attention.
