For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty on June 19th 1917, when the Battalion captured enemy trenches near FOSSE 3 DE LIEVIN, S.W. of LENS. Pte. Bull was employed as a Battalion runner and made repeated journeys between Battalion Head Quarters and the front line. On at least four occasions he had to pass through the heavy barrage that the enemy had put down, but he did so without hesitation and with complete disregard for his personal safety. After his return from his last journey, he immediately volunteered to go out again with an officer to the front line although at the time the shelling was still very heavy. He has on many occasions done very good work under fire.
