242453 Pte. George BRIGGS

(Recommended for Military Medal)

For conspicuous gallantry on 9th October 1918 when the Battalion attacked FRESNOY-LE-GRAND. The advance was being rendered very difficult through enemy machine-gun fire on the Northern Fringe of the village. This man who is a No. 1 L. Gunner, having located the enemy machine-gun which was causing most of the trouble, led his section forward under heavy fire to a flank and succeeded in knocking out the gun and team. On reaching the objective Pte. Briggs again led his Section forward and by skilful handling of his gun, neutralised the fire of another enemy machine-gun which was hampering the advance of another Company. He displayed throughout the greatest coolness and initiative under heavy machine-gun and shell fire. This man is not in possession of any decoration.
