2/Lieut. Adolphus George BLACK

(Recommended for Military Cross)

For conspicuous courage and determination and good leadership during operations east of LE TOURET on 03/09/1918, this Officer was in charge of the left Platoon of the Battalion and had to work along and clear the RUE DE BOIS. He handled his Platoon with much skill and showed great courage and coolness under persistent fire of machine-guns and Snipers. He reduced an enemy strong point killing an Officer and three others and capturing four with their machine-guns. He then proceeded towards his objective clearing snipers out of houses on the RUE DE BOIS. This officer had a difficult task and I cannot speak too highly of the way in which he carried it out, enabling his Company to reach its final objective with the minimum of casualties. This officer is not possession of any decoration.
