241199 Pte. Fredrick Henry BARKER

(Recommended for Military Medal)

For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty on the 24th and 25th September 1918 when the Battalion was holding the line west of BELLENGLISE. Owing to heavy enemy shell fire the telephone wires were constantly being cut. This man, who is a linesman, did most valuable work. On several occasions going out under heavy shell fire when it was not his row of duty, to mend the wires. On one occasion he was out for nine hours under fire most of the time mending wires. I cannot speak too highly of this man's courage and devotion to duty. It was largely due to his courage and example that communications with the front line was maintained. He has always set a magnificent example to his comrades in the Signals Section.
